5 Tips to Glowing Skin

Winter is crazy notorious for depleting our skin and it can feel as though your constantly doing damage control from the harsh weather.  Having an easy skin care routine to combat the winter skin blues can be a lifesaver.  Here are 5 tips to prep your skin for Spring time 💕


1: Stay Hydrated

Water is life, staying hydrated is one of the best and most important thing you can do for your skin and body.  The benefits of water range from mood booster to flushing out toxins; adding more water and herbal tea to your diet can result in glowing skin and a beautiful outlook on life.


2: At Home Steam Treatments 

Adding in steam facials a few times a month can bring so many skin benefits and help to destress your mind and body.  A few benefits of steam treatments are: Increases blood circulation, deep cleanses skin, prevents acne, keeps you young.  A quick how to steam: 

Wash your face with mild cleanser to get rid of dirt and to remove makeup.

Take a bowl and fill it with water, 2-3 cups will work.

For extra benefits you can add a combination of herbs and oils. For combination-oily skin, use few drops of tea tree oil and for normal dry skin lavender use. Mint and neem, leaves will also work.

Boil the water and set it on table. Sit in a comfortable position because steaming needs to be relaxing.

Drape towel on your head and lean over the bowl. Steam for 8-10 minutes. If you feel discomfort you can always remove your towel for fresh air.


3: Wear Less Makeup

Swap your heavy foundation for a tinted moisturizer to help prep your skin and give you a natural glow.  Try skipping makeup all together on some days, your skin needs to breathe, and giving it the chance to do that will allow your skin to regenerate and your internal sparkle to shine through.


4: Skin Brightening

Glowing skin is beautiful and healthy, here is a simple skin brightening face recipe to try:

Ingredients

2 tablespoons raw organic unfiltered honey (raw and unfiltered are important!)

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice some pulp is ok

¼ teaspoon fresh or dried organic (or unsprayelavender blossoms (available in bulk from health food stores your garden, or your farmers market)

Instructions

P.S: If you’re exposed to sun directly after using citrus on skin, you may experience severe burning or irritation. Make sure to wash your skin well after application, wait at least several hours before exposing yourself to the sun, and always apply sunscreen for protection. Moreover, excessive use of citrus on skin can cause lightening, so don’t use this mask more than once a week.

In a small bowl, lightly combine all ingredients. Set aside.

Wash your face and pat dry, leaving it slightly damp. Spread about a tablespoon of the honey mask evenly on all areas of your face and neck, avoiding eyes. Leave on 5-10 minutes.

Wash off completely, making sure to rinse hands and forearms of any lingering honey stickiness. Dry face and moisturize as usual.

Begin to add in fruits and vegetables that help your skin’s radiance.  Foods such as avocado, spinach, blueberries, and kale, add fresh fruit and herbs to your water, it will all help your skin look flawless and your body feel and look amazingly!

5 Ways to Welcome Spring

As the weather begins to warm and the trees bloom, we start to feel the affects of Spring, and what it brings with her.  Longer days, fresh rain, beautiful flowers, and more opportunities to spend outside.  A renewed sense of spirit and hope gives motivation to wellness and self-care; here are 5 ways to welcome this gorgeous season ❤️


1: Connect With Yourself

Wake early and spend some time in silence, just focusing on your breath and heartbeat.  You might even close your eyes as you do this and just begin to let your thoughts go and give yourself some time to just be.  As humans we don’t just sit and become aware of our own existence in life, sometimes just stopping and breathing and  giving yourself a few minutes to connect with yourself, with your spirit. 2: Call of the Wild 

Spend some time in nature.  Go outside and feel the air against your body, the warmth of the sun on your skin, if you walk barefoot, feel the ground beneath your feet.  Take some time to connect back with our original source, the earth. Allow your spirit the space and freedom to reconnect with itself and experience the organic in life.  

3: Soulful Writing

Start a journal or if you already have one continue writing.  Maybe add some more creative elements to it; find quiet spaces to sit in and reflect, whether that be a safe place in your home, outside in nature, or one of your favorite spots out in public.  Try to really connect with your emotions and what is going on in your life at that time and how you feel.  Write it all down, maybe be creative and add some sketches, or mementos.  Anything that helps you feel better and understand your self more.


4: Yin and Yang

Start a yoga or meditation practice, or continue what you’re doing maybe challenge yourself a little more. Check out these yoga methods for self-care.  There are amazing resources online, online yoga classes, local yoga classes, books, DVD’s.  There’s so many places to go to for help if you’re a beginner.

5: Flower Power

Add little elements of spring to your home and into any type of yoga or meditation space that you have.  Fresh flowers bring life and amazing scents to your home; grow your own fresh herbs in your window sill, maybe a small herb garden outside.  Herbs can help kick up the flavor of any dish and are a great addition to your health and wellness plan.

Flower Petal Body Scrub

With spring right around the corner its time to start a healthy skin care routine, here is a beautiful DIY body scrub recipe to get your skin glowing.


You will need…

500g / 2 cups coarse sea salt or granulated sugar
240ml / 1 cup oil (olive oil, coconut oil – melted and sweet almond oil are good choices)

2 tbsp rose water

Dried flower petals. I used this ‘rainbow petal mix‘ of assorted dried flowers and some dried rose petals.

2 tbsp dried lavender

A clean jar or container

 In a large bowl, mix together the sea salt (or sugar) with the oil. Add more salt if it’s too oily, or more oil if it’s too dry.

Stir in the rose water.

Stir in the dried flower petals and lavender. Enjoy the heavenly floral aroma!

Transfer to a jar or container and keep for up to 2 months.

Angel Hair Pasta + Kale and Lemon


INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup pecans

1 pound angel hair pasta

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, divided

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon dried chili flakes

1/2 pound kale, stems discarded and chopped

Zest of 1 lemon

Juice of 1 lemon

8 basil leaves, torn

2 teaspoons kosher salt

2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

4 tablespoons grated Parmesan

PREPARATION:

Toast pecans in a dry nonstick skillet over medium heat for 3 minutes until fragrant. Remove from skillet and chop. Set aside.
Add 1 teaspoon of salt to a pot of water and bring to a boil. Cook the pasta for 1 minute less than the package instructs.

While the pasta is cooking, heat 1/4 cup olive oil over medium-high heat in a large nonstick skillet until shimmering. Add the garlic and chili flakes and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add kale and lemon zest and cook for 2 minutes more. Stir carefully so that the kale will not fall out of the pan.

Add the pasta, remaining olive oil, lemon juice, basil, salt, and pepper. Toss until everything is coated.

Portion pasta onto plates. Sprinkle with the pecans and Parmesan cheese.

5 Ways to a Happier Life

Happiness is something that everyone deserves, but the path to happiness can be quite daunting at times.  Being able to thrive and live a full life is the dream, and even if you live an already seemingly perfect life or even if you don’t, here are 5 ways to inspire you to begin your journey to happiness or keep moving forward and continuing to create the life that you absolutely love.

1: Understand That Your Journey is Unique to You

Stop comparing your path to everyone else’s, especially when people around you are doing what you want to do; remember that you will get there when it’s your time. Instead, let others inspire you and propel you along your journey.  Learn that sometimes our path changes and the people in it, be willing to let go and continue on with a sense of purpose.

2: Set Boundaries 

We come across people or situations that can deplete our energy or keep us in a dark, stagnant place emotionally.  Learning to set boundaries for toxic people and relationships can help keep your happiness level balanced; sometimes you might need to cut people and habits out of your life for good so that you’re able to thrive and live your most full life.

3: Put Your Happiness First

We have the tendency to put others happiness above our own without even realizing we are starting our own downward spiral of self-neglect.  Be aware of your own needs and wants and put those first, you’ll thank yourself in the end.  You will be a much happier, healthier, productive person for yourself, your significant other, and/or your family; your life will be that much more full and and you will feel more alive. 

4: Forever Be a Student

Life is always trying to teach us lessons, try to become aware of your reactions to situations and look for the lesson behind it. Become more positive about negative things that happen and always be able to look for the good in any situation, it will give you an outstanding attitude towards life.  That doesn’t mean to turn off emotions or ignore things that happen, just becoming self-aware so that you can learn to set boundaries and be more positive about life in every aspect.

5: Blessings in Disguise 

Not dwelling on missed opportunities or changes in our life’s journey will give you a greater sense of purpose and help to keep you moving forward.  People, places, situation, that for whatever reason flow in and out of our lives we should look at them as blessings in disguise and another door opening to greater opportunities and greater happiness for ourselves in our own lives.
