Foods for Fall

Fall begins the season of warm clothes, cozy blankets, and fires to warm the body, heart and soul;  favorite foods come into season such as apples and squash, and we begin to slow down and look for things to nourish our bodies, minds, and souls.  As the period of preparing for winter and the great hibernation begins, we should look at our diet and lifestyle and begin to adjust accordingly.  Ayurveda tells us that fall is Vata season and we should favor foods and activities that keep us grounded and nourished; here is a list of foods for Fall (or late October) in Missouri where I live and a Wild Rice Harvest Bowl recipe from Iowa Girl Eats to try out ❤

Ayurveda says that like increases like and you should modify your diet and lifestyle according to your dosha.  Some of these foods may not be appropriate for everyone and may need to be cooked before consuming.  To find out your dosha, take this QUIZ.  Being able to adjust to the weather is important so that you don’t get out of balance; maybe try some Yoga Methods for Self-Care and try some yoga styles such as Yin Yoga or Restorative Yoga.  The most important thing is to listen to yourself and do what feels right for you ❤
